Postnatal care

In this section

Our postnatal care unit 'Blossom' provides a safe, calm environment with personalised care — so you can focus on healing.

Caring for you

Wren’s postnatal care unit will be referred to as 'Blossom' while you are here. We provide a safe, nurturing environment for parents focusing on holistic care (encompassing your whole life). This means we look after your total wellbeing, including the mental, physical and emotional health of you and your loved ones.

We seek to meet each family's needs with empathy and expertise. Contact our friendly staff for more information.

Your room

We offer generous-sized private ensuite rooms with plenty of space for you and your baby to stay together. Rooms come equipped with:

  • Change mat
  • Baby basin
  • Cot

We aim to provide you and your baby with a safe, supportive environment. If clinically indicated, babies sleep in the nursery with constant nursing supervision; otherwise, they sleep in the parents’ room.

Additional caregivers

Most perinatal therapy groups will involve both parent and infant, however, there are some general groups where infants must be cared for by a chosen adult carer.

You can identify up to four adult carers to look after your child during your stay via the nominated carer form. Your nominated carer can take your child for a walk or stay in the room during group therapy sessions.

You will be asked to share custody arrangements with the Wren intake clinician, so a clear plan can be documented before admission. This includes nominating an alternative caregiver.

What to pack

When you arrive, an admissions staff member checks your belongings for any risky items. This helps to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment that promotes wellbeing and recovery.

In addition to ample clothing, toiletries and sanitary items, you can pack additional items for your baby. To make it easier, here are some items we recommend:

Infant packing list

  • Medication you or your baby may need during your stay. For example, infant Panadol or Nurofen
  • Infant formula, dummies and favourite toys
  • Pram or stroller for walks
  • Infant maternal health book and a copy of your baby’s immunisation record
  • Linen is provided but you are welcome to bring your own pillows and baby blankets if you prefer
  • Comfortable clothing and comfort items

Note: we do not have a freezer for expressed milk.
